2016 Hyundai Sonata from Rio Rancho, NM Dealerships Posts High Marks in Fuel Efficiency

Hyundai’s Sonata is a sedan that earns high marks in every aspect, but fuel economy is where it truly excels. The Sonata’s latest version, the 2016 model, is offered in three powertrains—a 2.4 liter four-cylinder, 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder, and a 1.6 liter turbocharged four-cylinder—and each boast of an extremely impressive fuel rating.

The 2.4L engine comes in SE, Sport, and Limited trim levels and is able to post fuel economy ratings of 25 in city, 32 on the highway, and 26 combined. These numbers are in miles per gallon (mpg) format. Meanwhile, the 2.0T is offered in Sport and Limited trim. The former is rated at 23 city, 32 highway, and 26 combined while the latter gets 21 city, 31 highway, and 25 combined.

Hyundai added the Eco trim in 2015, which houses a fuel economy-focused 1.6L turbo four-cylinder engine. The Eco trim posts 28 mpg in the city, 38 mpg in the highway, and 32 mpg combined. These figures place the Sonata Eco at the top of non-hybrid fuel efficient cars in the market.

What’s surprising about the Sonata is that the smaller 1.6 Eco engine is the one with more punch and excitement. More than that, it’s less noisy than the 2.4L and offers quicker acceleration than its fellow turbocharged 2.0L sibling. Its braking ability is also formidable.

All Sonatas are front-wheel drive, and except for the Eco, are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Test drive these different Sonata trims for yourself and see which one tickles your fancy by dropping by your nearest Rio Rancho, NM Hyundai dealerships.
